Katy Burch-Hudson, a junior at Columbia Independent School, was inducted into the National Society of High School Scholars earlier this year. NSHSS is an international organization with over 300,000 members. The purpose of the group is to “inspire, encourage and support those students committed to making a difference,” according to the Web site. Benefits of membership include scholarship opportunities, academic competitions and members-only resources.
Burch-Hudson is Student Council Vice President, a member of the National Honor Society and on the cross-country and basketball teams at CIS. She has been working on a team project called “Peace with Cuba.” The team of high school students have partnered with a Nashville church to supply books and hygiene kits to a church in Cuba for distribution.
In seventh grade, Burch-Hudson was recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program for her academic achievement.
